Brownfields Redevelopment | Environmental Due Diligence | Remediation

Aquarion has comprehensive experience in a wide range of site-encompassing remediation programs for petroleum and hazardous waste contaminated soil and groundwater. Whether you require design or construction management, our professionals will make sure the job is done right.

Our capabilities in this area range from soil removal projects to the design of air sparging/soil vapor extraction (SVE) systems for remediating contaminated soils/groundwater. our design of the Groveville SVE Air Sparging Sysytem earned us an Engineering Excellence Award from the Consulting Engineers of Maine. Aquarion has been identified by the Maine Department of Environmental Protection as a qualified consultant for petroleum investigation and remediation since 1994.

We are also able to design and implement biodegradation systems and multi-phase extraction to help our clients meet their remediation goals. Our team is capable of providing operation and maintenance (O&M) for treatment systems and are licensed physical/chemical/biological system operators.

MTBE Groundwater Treatment System—Monhegan Island, Maine
Aquarion has completed the design and construction of a groundwater treatment system to remediate gasoline contamination from a leaking storage tank. In addition to conducting a thorough hydrologic assessment, we designed the groundwater extraction and treatment system, and drafted an Operations and Maintenance Manual for the equipment used in the treatment system.

Groveville Service Station, Buxton, Maine - SVE and Air Sparge System Design, Construction, Operation and Maintenance.
Under contract with the MDEP, Aquarion designed an SVE and air sparge system to remediate the contamination source at the Groveville Service Station site. The Groveville site is located in a mixed commercial and residential area serviced by individual wells for potable water. Several of the downgradient wells were contaminated with petroleum resulting from previous USTs at the site. The initial design incorporated five horizontal SVE trenches and three vertical air sparge wells. Constructed in 1993, this design was one of the first air sparge systems in Maine. To enhance remediation of dissolved phase contaminants at the site, eleven air sparge wells were added to the system in 1997. Aquarion coordinated all contract bidding and performed oversight for the construction of the treatment system and treatment system upgrade. Aquarion operated and maintained the treatment system until 200, when the remediation was complete and the system dismantled. This remedial design won an Engineering Excellence Award from the Consulting Engineers of Maine in 1993.
